Reviving the 1974 Aberfeldy Group Manifesto developed by
Dr Yellowlees and farmers
Food is important for our growth, health and wellbeing. Everyone should have reliable access to fresh, nutritious, affordable food. In rural communities this can be challenging.
A fragile supply chain, global insecurity and the changing climate is impacting both the growth and supply of fresh, local food. Shop shelves instead are filled with highly processed manufactured foods imported and promoted by multinational organisations for maximum profit.

Scotland’s Good Food Nation Act aspires to deliver a fairer, more sustainable and resilient food system for everyone, which is healthier for people and contributes towards a flourishing and biodiverse environment.
The Aberfeldy Manifesto, written in 1974, recognised the importance of these issues which remain so relevant today.

WHAT WE CAN DO:
We, the communities of the local region, need to act on the following:
-
Awareness-raising about the impacts of food on our health and the impacts of climate change, soil health, transport costs and geopolitical factors on food security, at a local level as well as nationally and internationally.
-
Support for local farmers, food producers and food businesses so that more food can be grown and sold in or near our communities, with encouragement for people and projects to grow their own produce.
-
Advocacy for all aspects of the food economy at all levels, and lobbying local and national government where their actions affect our community.
We invite all organisations, businesses, schools and families to help deliver the manifesto for the benefit of people and planet by doing some or all of these simple tasks:
