Friday, April 17

  • Let's Get Growing - Springing into Action workshop: aimed a new veg gardeners and those who want to recap and get to grips with spring tasks. 10am to 4pm, Aberfeldy Town Hall, £20, book here

  • Open afternoon at Tombreck Farm, Lawers: see how the community market garden is starting their season, and learn about the challenges of growing at height. There will also be a chance to see the animals (pigs, rare-breed sheep, goats and hens) and visit the farm shop. This is a free event, no need to book, 2pm to 4pm.

 

Saturday, April 18

  • Film night at The Birks Cinema in Aberfeldy - Grow Your Own:  rated PG, is a nourishing, warm comedy about a refugee family who are given a plot at a Merseyside allotment to help with integration into British society. 7.30pm, tickets cost from £6.50, book here

Sunday, April 19

  • Foraging Sunday: It's the return of Open Gate's foraging events run by Charlotte Flower. From 2pm to 5pm, starting at Aberfeldy Town Hall, the session involves a short walk to take a look at what free ingredients can be gathered at this time of year, followed by some time in the hall kitchen pickling and processing what you find. Places cost £10, please book here

A number of our gardeners from the Growing in Aberfeldy group will be opening their productive gardens for visits. This is a great chance for people to speak to them about what they do, the highs and lows and, in particular, for newbie growers to get support and advice about starting out. There is no need to book, just turn up and enjoy.

Saturday, April 18

  • Woodside, Moness Avenue, Aberfeldy PH15 2DJ - 10.30am to 4pm:
    John and Helen Hayward will show you around their productive garden with raised beds for growing vegetables, fruit trees, fruit cage with soft fruit, greenhouse and compost area. Parking available. Garden is accessible, there are steps but they can be avoided.

     

  • 30A Chapel Street, Aberfeldy PH15 2AS - 10am to 12.30pm
    Susie Lumsden will be on hand to explain about her veg that has overwintered, seedlings for new season and cold frame, containers being prepared for new season. Happy to dive advice to newbie gardeners. Street parking close by. Garden is accessible, no steps, and toilet available.

     

  • Distillery Cottage, Lundin Farm, Aberfeldy PH15 2ED - 10am to 4pm
    Visitors will be shown around Angela Penfold's polytunnel and veg plot with a variety of things growing, as well as the rest of the garden and her hens. Garden isn’t good for anyone with mobility issues as there are steps and sloping bank. What3Words: steadily.treetop.blasted
     

  • Schoolhouse, Killiechassie, Aberfeldy PH15 2JS - 10am to 4pmDebbie Martin will be welcoming people to her garden to view her veg beds, fruit trees, greenhouse and polytunnel. She will be serving hot drinks in her flower garden or garden room. The garden has some paths but access to it is steep.
     

  • 5 Dewars Steading, Coshieville PH15 2NE - 10am to 4pm
    Laura Blore's garden is about a third of an acre acre with pond, flower beds, wild area, fruit trees and berry bushes, and raised beds for strawberries and vegetable growing. It is a slopping site with steps to access and within the garden itself.

     

  • Clach an Tuirc, Fearnan, PH15 2PG - 10am to 4pm
    Jenny Penfold's garden is all accessible, a is toilet available plus there is lots of parking available on site. What3words to her back gate: navy.eternity.refusals

  • Hawthorn Cottage, Old Crieff Road, Aberfeldy PH15 2DZ - 1.30pm to 4pm
    Anna and Tom welcome you to their 'untidy garden' with raised beds, fruit trees and fruit bushes. There are no steps but the lawn up to the raised beds slopes a bit. To find their house, go up to the top of Old Crieff Road, passed the old cottage hospital and Hawthorn Cottage is up the narrow lane to the left of Braeside Park.
