Let's Get Growing

Healthiest Town Aberfeldy would like to encourage everyone to join in with some of our ideas and projects which aim to get people growing some of their own food. This initiative helps meet all four of our pillars - move more, eat real food, finding balance and, in particular, connecting with people, purpose and nature.

If you don’t have a garden then you could always join community gardening groups, help a neighbour or grow a few things in pots on your patio or windowsill. It’s amazing what a few seeds and a small amount of compost can produce.

GrowAlong Groups

Our GrowAlong Groups are there to help and support people who would like to grow vegetables but don’t quite know where to start. Each group will have an experienced leader: you’ll be guided and supported through the mysterious world of patio potatoes, purple peas, courtyard courgettes, and colourful chard. You can provide your own seeds/materials or we can provide with anything you need. You can join the Whatsapp community by scanning this QR code using the WhatsApp app camera in the app or by emailing infor@healthiesttown.org

Gardeners' Coffee Time

Also we’ll be getting together for coffee and chat on (usually) the second Wednesday of each month, at 10.30 am. This is a great opportunity to meet other growers and gardeners, to share stories, seedlings, successes, challenges (slugs!) and generally to encourage each other to keep on growing edible produce in our gardens, patios and other open spaces. We like to get out and about to be inspired by other productive gardens so venues for our ‘Gardeners’ Coffee Time will vary month to month, so please keep an eye on our Facebook page or email info@healthiesttown.org. Or join our WhatsApp community by scanning the QR code above!

Volunteering and community growing

If you like gardening in company, there are a number of community gardening projects in the area that welcome volunteers. Some local primary schools are also doing fantastic work and may welcome volunteers.
