The Open Gate Festival

We are excited to launch the Open Gate Festival, which takes place

from Friday 23rd August to Sunday 1st September 2024.

The festival presents an opportunity for local growers & producers to show where our food comes from! It will feature workshops, speaker events and a community feast.

We are looking forward to putting on the festival, hosting workshops, providing a community feast and inviting guest speakers, all for the purpose of highlighting local food and growers, and encouraging local residents to eat well.

Ahead of the festival, we aim to encourage as many local growers (like Imogen here) and food producers, both commercial farmers and amateur producers, to open their gates to the public.

If you are a local or commercial grower interested in opening your gate to the public for the festival in August, please reply to this email to let us know.

During the festival, there will be a number of workshops and talks taking place throughout the week, on topics such as composting, growing food in a window box, outdoor cooking and cooking with leftovers.

We will also have a community feast using simple, local produce.

Schools and community groups will be invited to get involved either by visiting gardens or hosting an event or activity.

The Open Gate Festival encourages and enables people to eat better and more cost-effectively, understand food and growing, and reduce food waste.

The Open Gate Festival is good for our community, good for local business,

good for our health, and good for the planet.
